Crown Portland Composite Cement is CEM-II/A-M which is a cement consisting of Clinker, Gypsum, Pulverized Fuel Ash (PFA), Blast Furnace Slag and Limestone designated by the recommendation of BDS EN 197-1: 2010; CEM -II/A-M (V-S-L), 42.5 N. PCC is the most suitable cement for constructions in Bangladesh. CEM – II /A-M contains 80-94% Clinker, which is substantially higher than CEM – II/B-M containing 65 – 79% which provides us extra advantage in strength development and better of concrete performance.
Both slag & fly ash (PFA) are used in PCC. Percentage of SiO2 in PFA is higher than slag which is advantageous to gain more long-term strength and ensure production of durable concrete. This type of cement is used for most of constructions all over the world and it has been used during the last few decades.
The hydration process of normal cement produces Calcium Silicate Hydrate CHS & Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2. Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 does not contribute to gain strength and it is the weak part of reaction which is not suitable for concrete. Since PFA contains higher portion of reactive silica and slag contains alumina, it helps to convert Ca(OH)2 into CSH to gain further Compressive strength.
According to the recommendation of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution -BSTI, Crown cement produce cement according to BDS EN 197-1:2010 guidelines. In certain cases, based on specific customer requirements ASTM standards also follows.
Fineness of Crown Portland Composite Cement is tested by air permeability method-Blaine Test. The specific surface of cement is commonly varying from 390-420 m2/kg.

The setting time of Crown Composite cement is tested by Vicat Apparatus test method. Initial setting time for Portland Composite cement is not less than 60 minutes. There is no specific requirement for final setting time for Portland Composite cement but for regular practice crown cement maintains final setting time is not more than 420 minutes.

Crown cement maintains all the chemical parameters according to BDS EN 197-1:2010 standard as well as ASTM requirement. Chemical testing done using gravimetric analytical method as well as using most ultramodern EDXRF method. The major testing parameters are Loss on Ignitation, Insoluble Ratio, Sulfate Content as SO3, Total alkali content, Chloride content & some Others. Some major parameters ranges are as follows Insoluble residue (by mass) 5.0% max, Total Chloride Content 0.10% max, Total Alkali as Na2O 0.60% max.

For acquisition of Raw materials, all materials are tested by QA & Lab department before they are imported. After getting the QC Passed Certificate raw materials are approved for Import & production of Cement. At the Time of Cement Production samples of cement are also tested each and every hour frequently. For quality assurance of cement, it is tested on various parameters. For this, the chemists of M.I. Cement Factory Ltd. Conduct Blaine, setting time, the compressive strength test by making concrete/morter cubes of different test age-3 days, 7 days and 28 days, as per ASTM C-595, and 2 days & 28 days as per BDS EN (European Standard) at laboratory. Chemical test also done in same manner. After conforming all the parameters cements are permitted to deliver in highest quality to our customers.
